Solo Play Logs - Star Wars Saga
Wednesday, 22 May 2024 12:07Rambling a bit. Yeah, starting another IP solo RPG game, lmao. I think, like everyone, I got recommended Star Wars related content during May. I actually had forgotten about May the 4rth, so I did get surprised being recommended a bunch of Lore videos on Droids. Still a bit surprised how targeted it was since it was Droids, the one thing that got me re-interested on the franchise.
It just made me think about how I wanted to play a game with robot characters and made me check on some options I've found since last time I planned it.
It was fun finding even more about droids while setting up my game, thought what I was rewatching and thought the Scavenger's Guide Saga book, I forgot how interesting the droids are and how subtly the world hints at droids having their own thing going on. I actually have been thinking about them a lot recently, making characters and just looking for anything about them.
((About the actual game now))
I end up repurposing some of my old A-8/M14-uh oc, nothing of the personality, mostly the being scavenged and fixed by an alien bar/Cantina owner, Ótho, in a previously mining moon. TO-2 [Tunnel Operations (Maintenance Mechanic Droid unit) - Wanderer & Wheel], a model to operate on terminals made for humanoids, but also to easily move thought small tunnels and reach sub-systems when as a wheel. Not a rare model, but localized and, like most models, very old. She started to get way too inspired by the adventures told by scoundrels that went at the Cantina, and would frequently break protocols to either watch ships leave or make unauthorized additions from scrap, she just got luck that Ótho was supportive when he found out and let her use his ship to get out there. She mostly takes cargo/transportation work, and occasionally scavenges crash sites/space debris in hope she can get nosy.
She still operates at the Cantina, and my adventure started there, I used a bunch of rolls and tried that random page from a random book, and what I got was a noble from a sort of trading group, his bodyguard, and his PZ series protocol droid, looking for transportation. Turns out the trading group has been targeted a lot, so much that when we reached our destination, the ship we would give the cargo to was destroyed, and the captain refused interaction with us. We landed on a nearby water moon's trading spaceport to think what they wanted to do. While him and his bodyguard left, TO-2 decides to find out more about the attack on the ship, I got a random event:New NPC just about and the rolls+questions led to an interesting direction. Obviously a Droid will only have luck with other droids, and she approaches a RA-7 unit casually asking about the crash, just to get a bit of an intense response about looking into things she is not supposed to, I tried to get more but didn't get good rolls, and lost the RA-7 right away.
Not sure if I keep asking around or go for a new scene and see where this goes yet, but pretty interesting so far, fitting it still isn't too much combat oriented yet.
It just made me think about how I wanted to play a game with robot characters and made me check on some options I've found since last time I planned it.
- Engine Hearts: I made a character for it and read the system, sounds nice, and I had a bunch of ideas for it too but... it wasn't completely what I was looking for, I do like all the stats related to how well your character process certain elements and looks like something fun to play.
- Year Zero, Mechatron: Robot wise, it was more what I was looking for, but I just could not get me to really get into the system, and I'm still unsure why... it didn't help that I wasn't able to find anything about the game too. It was more of a post-apocalyptic, so, not completely what I wanted.
- Pocked Space RPG (with the Robot Character booklet): I'll be honest, it would have been exactly what I was looking for, Robot PC option but a lot of options for other aliens, space sci-fi games, sounds great, and I already had gotten it a while back... Then I found out it used AI art inside... Geek Gamers said good things of it, but not knowing it had AI turned me off from the game, I don't care if it sounds silly.... Maybe I'll revisit it sometime, since I already have it.
