I took a bit of a pause on my TF game to play Doronai Nui again, which is funny because I took a pause on my DN game to play TF...

I think I should... maybe... be embarrassed that the Solo games mainly focus on two things I'm in the fandom for... but then I realized that no-one would judge someone who only played Star Wars RPGs (I think), so who cares. (One day I'll log other games I want to play like Engine Hearts, Salvage Worlds, and Courier.)

Doronai Nui was one of my first game to solo, since I had heard of it just before learning about solo play, horrible choice, honestly, lol. I mean, I made it work, and it was fun, but it was very difficult. Coming back to it now, after trying a few other games, is a lot more satisfying, it went through an update or two since, and now I know how to traverse it better. Mostly by using The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox and Elminster's Guide to Solo Adventure (Both that I would recommend if DN was your goal to play solo.) Mythic is still my main Oracle, but the other two have wonderful advice for D&D/Pathfinder like D20's games like DN is. The only thing I still struggle is battle encounters, I'm trying the Solo Gamemaster's Guide tactic of cutting the enemy's stats by half, felt like cheating at first, but after actually doing it, it works better than losing and retreating every fight. (Kynai may be a rogue type, so not OOC, but she still craves violence goddammit!)

When it comes to the story, I tried to follow up from my last game, where an Augafi pilot crashed by the beach, hurriedly fleeing a pirate ship with a stolen artifact. Kynai was able to steal two crystal pieces from it, that may be its energy source? The pilot turns out was part of the pirates, and got captured for stealing.

The story was to keep going, but then I paused it and the game updated. The hooked dagger was nerfed, so I remade Kynai's sheet from zero and started my game at level 4 (maybe should've gone for 5 tbh) using tips from the previously mentioned books.

So the island now has pirates patrolling it, and despite Kynai's efforts, she is unable to find where they may be based, so she follows her common stick of bothering them instead. I start my game stalking and stealing a few goods from a small pirate group camping at night on the beach, the idea was to overhear them for information, but then a random event happened. They were ambushed, and without their weapons (that I stole, oops) they were stricken down. Turns out this shady party made out of a Vortixx, an Ursare, and a Gawalai, (prompt says the Vortixx is the leader, and that he does not trust the Ursare.) are looking for that same artifact and know where the pirates are. Kynai overhears them. Thinking they may be just from the same pirate group and looking to backstab their own (or a different set of pirates), she plans to maybe use them as a distraction as she takes it instead so to trow a rock on everyone's plans. (I have a fun idea of who they actually are, but the oracle will have to tell me, and Kynai sure doesn't know about that.)

On the way I only find a lake and a statue, the only thing interesting is that it's the same Toa from a different statue found on a very technological dungeon with a dead Ursare and an empty treasure stand. I get a prompt that there may be something there, but fail the perception check... and it turns out that I also lost the Vortixx's party as well. When I reach the Fortress where the pirates are based, they are also not there, or there is any sigh of them.

Either way, I get some interesting prompts about how the fortress looks very pristine in comparison to any other found on the island. And that there is another way in thought an entrance on the side of the mountain. I climb it, deal with a trap to the door, fail to see the trap on the door, but I'm saved by my REFL save check. Get into a room with a hole to the lower level. Random event, a Skakdi Goon pops up, I give her a fighting chance, but by the nature of the random event she is captured the moment he succeeds on the grapple roll, and taken to a cell.... and that's it for now. Now I'll have to look for the artifact AND escape. Another random event in the middle of the encounter eluded that, maybe, the Vortixx's party was confronting the guards at the real entrance, but let's see. I'm getting back to it tonight.

DN was what made me come up with Kynai and her own story, before that she wasn't much, and this actually incentivizes me to bring in some other characters. I want to maybe, after this adventure, bring in the travelling Matoran village that decides to settle in, I just got a few other ideas while she is still solo, but then again, I can play then all interchangeably when I get to level 5 or 6.
